ISSA and IAA renew their cooperation

The International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the International Actuarial Association (IAA) have renewed their cooperation agreement in a ceremony during the 21st ISSA International Conference of Social Security Actuaries, Statisticians and Investment Specialists (ACT 2023).

The ISSA and IAA have worked closely on topics of joint interest for several years, and this partnership is important for the development of actuarial knowledge in the social security field. The IAA is the worldwide association grouping local professional actuarial associations, and the ISSA is the leading international organization for social security government agencies and institutions.

The renewed agreement for three years was signed on 5 December 2023, in a special ceremony at the at ISSA’s ACT 2023 conference, the leading international event on actuarial and social security issues, organized in Mexico City, Mexico.

 “With this renewed agreement, the ISSA and IAA aim to work even more closely through events, technical cooperation, research and knowledge building, to the benefit of the actuarial profession, social security and society at large”, said ISSA President Dr Mohammed Azman.

The agreement means the ISSA and IAA will organize joint events, participate in each other’s events, conduct joint studies, exchange information and publications, be represented on each other’s relevant committees and consult each other on key topics and documents. The IAA and ISSA are currently preparing a joint paper on actuarial perspectives on climate change, and a preliminary version was presented at the conference.

The IAA will be invited to participate in meetings and cooperate with the ISSA Technical Commission on Statistical, Actuarial and Financial Studies, while in return the ISSA will be invited to the IAA Pension, Benefits and Social Security Forum. The aim is to bring these two bodies closer together in terms of cooperation, exchanges and knowledge building.
