The Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management Course

Implementation year
1980

The safety and health at work challenges that we face in Zimbabwe resulted in the National Social Security Authority’s (NSSA) Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Division coming up with a safety and health course.

This course has been running in Zimbabwe since the country’s independence in 1980. However, it has evolved over the years, starting as a two-week Safety Advisors Course (SATCOR) in the early 1980s, then changed to a six-week Safety and Health Advisors Course (SHATCOR) in the mid-1990s. From 2009 to date, it has evolved to the current Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Management Course (OSHEMAC) when environmental issues and management systems development, implementation and auditing were factored into the course content.
