International Section of the ISSA on Prevention in Transportation
The transportation business is constantly growing and globally still one of the most hazardous trade branches. In the transportation industry, there are many threats and challenges that need to be considered in the daily work. In addition to health risks due to factors such as noise, hazardous substances and musculoskeletal strain, stress, fatigue and violence but also the participation in the traffics via road, rail, water or air ways have a major impact on the health and safety of employees. The share of heavy or even deadly accidents in relation to all other accidents on the job is very high. The aim of the International Section of the ISSA on Prevention in Transportation is to improve the work conditions for employees, reduce the number and severity of accidents and promote the international exchange of information and knowledge of suitable prevention measures between enterprises and social security organisations.
The main objectives of the Prevention Section on Transportation are:
- Establishing sustainable international standards to reduce the number and severity of work- and commute-related accidents in the transport industry and to protect the health of employees, taking into account the particular social and political situations;
- Knowledge management, implementation of research results and knowledge transfer on occupational health and safety best practices among stakeholders, social partners, decision-makers in institutions and representatives of businesses, politics and science in all sectors of the transport industry;
- Promotion and development of appropriate and innovative training and qualification programmes in occupational health and safety for employees in all sectors of the transport industry.
The Section is composed of members. Its two executive bodies are the General Assembly and the Bureau.
The General Assembly is composed of the members of the Section and shall meet once every three years. It discusses and rules on questions relating to work programmes, objectives and standing orders.
The Bureau of the Section conducts the regular business and develops its program of activities. It is elected by the Section's members in the General Assembly and is composed of a Chairperson, a Vice-Chairperson and a Secretary General.
The Section is funded by membership fees which are determined by the Bureau.
