World Social Security Forum to be held in Panama in 2016
The World Social Security Forum (WSSF) – the leading global event for social security professionals – will take place in Panama City, Panama, from 14 to 18 November 2016, the ISSA has announced.
The Forum is the largest and most important international event for social security, and is expected to involve more than 1,000 participants, including ministers, administrators, CEOs and senior managers from ISSA member organizations in all world regions. The Forum will be hosted by the Social Insurance Fund of Panama following an invitation extended to the ISSA. The Social Insurance Fund will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2016.
The formal agreement to host the prestigious event was signed in Panama at a ceremony on 26 November by the ISSA Secretary General, Mr Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, and the Director General of the Social Insurance Fund of Panama, Mr Estivenson Girón Desgrener.
"We are delighted to confirm plans for the World Social Security Forum to the worldwide ISSA membership, and express our gratitude to the leadership of the Social Insurance Fund for their generous offer to host the ISSA's flagship event," Mr Konkolewsky stated.
"Panama, which is a symbol of international exchange and cooperation, will provide an inspiring context for such an important gathering of social security leaders."
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Girón Desgrener stated that "it is an honour for us, the Social Insurance Fund and the country of Panama, to host the ISSA's World Social Security Forum. It will be an excellent opportunity for Panamanians to exchange experiences and good practices in social security at the global level."
The Forum programme will analyse and debate key issues and challenges facing social security, and will include sessions on innovative strategies in social security administration, and a Summit of policy-makers. The Forum will provide exclusive networking opportunities for social security senior managers and professionals. A highlight of the WSSF will be the launch of additional Guidelines for key areas of social security administration and new developments in the ISSA Centre for Excellence.
The Forum will include sessions of the ISSA General Assembly and Council, and elections of the ISSA President, Treasurer, and members of the Bureau and Control Commission.
Further information will be made available to members in the coming period.
