Updated country profiles for Europe

The International Social Security Association (ISSA) is pleased to announce the release of updated country profiles for Europe in the new restructured format. The profiles describe social security programmes in 49 European countries and territories, including four new profiles covering the West Balkans.

The information for Europe is updated as of 1 July 2023 and includes four new profiles on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. With these new profiles, the ISSA now covers all European countries. You can find the country profiles in PDF format here.

The ISSA’s country profiles are a unique resource on social security systems for members, researchers, experts, and policymakers worldwide covering 190 countries and territories. They summarize policy provisions on the nine branches of social security, detailing scheme types, relevant laws, legal coverage, financing, supervisory and administrative institutions, benefits, and qualifying conditions.

The country profile webpages are in the process of being redesigned, to give members easy access to the new more structured information. In a subsequent phase, they will provide interactive access to the data.

The following European country profiles were updated in January 2022: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.
