"Let's talk about OSH": a complete success!

The new ISSA webinar series "Let's talk about OSH" was extremely well received by viewers. The first edition on the topic of near misses was hosted by the ISSA Sections for Prevention in Electricity, Gas and Water and for Prevention in Transportation.

Well over 500 participants worldwide followed the expert discussion between Kirsten Kuns (Head of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment, Westfalen AG, Germany) and Mike Leppard (Senior Safety, Health and Environment Advisor, Energy Networks Association, United Kingdom). If you missed it, you can watch the entire conversation (45 minutes) again here in English, French, German and Spanish).

Near misses – incidents that did not result in injury, harm or damage to persons or property but had the potential to – help companies identify risks and shortcomings in their operations and provide valuable insights for the prevention of accidents before something serious happens. Effective near miss reporting can be the basis for improving overall health and safety performance while enhancing a positive error and safety culture throughout the company.

The next edition of "Let's talk about OSH" will take place on 2 May 2023, 16:00-16:45 (UTC/GMT+2 or CEST), and will focus on the topic of nudging. Nudging is a term of behavioural economics and describes a gentle method to influence human behaviour in a certain predictable, positive direction without resorting to conventional measures, such as laws or precepts and recourse. Simply put, nudges are small environmental cues that prompt people to make a particular decision by tapping into human motivators – often in the form of visual or auditory cues. Nudging has already been used in many areas, such as road transport and politics, and it is assumed that nudging could be used to support healthier and safety-conscious behaviour in the work environment, too. First studies show that nudges – used correctly and wisely – reduce the incidence of misconduct and mitigate its effects. More background information can be found here. In due course, the programme of the second edition of "Let's talk about OSH" will be published here. By subscribing to the newsletter of the ISSA Section for Prevention in Transportation, you will be informed in time about the opening of registration.
