The Special Commission (SC) is composed of 14 international sections, structured according to branch/topics and dedicated to prevention. The SC and its sections have been able to share knowledge through numerous events, webinars and publications that were produced during the 2020–22 triennium. One of the highlights was the triennial World Congress on Safety and Health at Work, which took place from 20–23 September 2021. It called for an end to workplace deaths and injuries, as described in the summary report.

The International Media Festival for Prevention is part of the World Congress and organized by the ISSA Prevention Sections for Electricity and for Information. The Special Commission and its sections also organized the Vision Zero Days 2021 at the A+A Congress and participated in a series of ISSA webinars on prevention and on rehabilitation.

One success for the Special Commission in the last triennium was the fact that the European Union adopted the ISSA’s Vision Zero approach and now pursues the goal of zero fatal accidents in its EU strategic framework on health and safety at work 2021-2027. Vision Zero is a strategy that was developed by the Special Commission. It is based on the belief that every accident, disease and harm at work can be avoided. The ISSA Prevention Sections have published numerous guides on how to apply the Vision Zero Seven Golden Rules in different economic sectors, such as in agriculture, construction, electricity, mining, or when working in a small business environment. A new Vision Zero Environmental Guide has been made available on the Vision Zero website. The Special Commission has also created a new Working Group on Well-being and will present a Summary report of the upcoming Vision Zero and Well-being guide at the World Social Security Forum 2022, in Marrakech, Morocco.
