A digital mandate for mypension: Citizens helping one another online to bridge the digital divide

Implementation year
2022

Due to the increasing number of pensioners, the rising cost of individual contacts and in order to benefit from automation, the Federal Pensions Service (Service fédéral des Pensions – SFP) and its partners are promoting online self-service.

Naturally, the SFP does not exclude citizens who are not digitally savvy, offering numerous alternatives. One way to bridge the digital divide is the digital mandate the SFP and its partners launched in November 2022, allowing citizens to request access to a friend’s or family member’s online pension file on mypension.be or to give access to their pension file to a confidante – a person they trust – to manage their administration.

In one year close to 3,500 mandates have been created.

In collaboration with other social security institutions, the SFP is currently investigating the possibility of further expanding this mandate system, so that professionals in the field can also help citizens – easily and safely, but with full access to necessary information – with their pension questions.
