Recent years have seen an exponential growth in the application of cutting-edge biotechnological techniques in a variety of research fields, such as human health, agriculture and industry. Such rapid success brings challenges related to the protection of human health and the environment. Therefore, it is important to provide up-to-date information on the national regulations, educate to laboratory practices with genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs), create awareness and motivate for biosafety.
The National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (Istituto Nazionale per l’Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro – Inail) Project “Prevention and protection of health and the environment in laboratories using advanced and innovative biotechnological methods” was carried out according to Vision Zero’s golden rules of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). It is aimed at promoting staff training and awareness to ensure compliance with the directive 2009/41/EC by users of biotechnological techniques, with innovative methodologies characterized by close synergy between students, safety managers and researchers and by the use of neuromanagement analysis.
