The Brazilian General Social Security Programme is responsible for the payment of approximately 38 million benefits monthly, reaching the amount of 11.4 billion US dollars (USD) – 58 billion Brazilian real (BRL) – paid monthly. The operation is controlled by the Brazilian National Social Security Institute (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social – INSS), and the management of systems is carried out by DATAPREV - Social Security Information and Technology Enterprise (DATAPREV - Empresa de Tecnologia e Informações da Previdência Social). The benefits are pensions, temporary incapacity allowances and others of social assistance.
One of the objectives was to carry out a public tender for the payment of benefits, in which the banks pay to have priority in the distribution of amounts by regions of the country, while the other objective is to enable a low-cost payroll loan operation model. Such actions should generate revenue for the general social security programme and finance operations of services provided by DATAPREV.
