Risk Management Methodology for Health care Processes (Metodología de Administración de Riesgos en los Procesos de Atención Médica – MARPAM) and
Risk Management Programme of Work (Programa de Trabajo de Administración de Riesgos – PTAR)

Implementation year
2021

With the publication of the agreement establishing the provisions and administrative manual on the widespread implementation of internal controls, the most recent version of which was published on 5 September 2018, the Public Services Secretariat (Secretaría de la Función Pública) established criteria on internal controls, which must be observed in areas covered by the Federal Public Administration (Administración Pública Federal).

In response to this obligation, the Mexican Social Security Institute (Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social – IMSS), launched and implemented the Risk Management Methodology for Health-care Processes (Metodología de Administración de Riesgos en los Procesos de Atención Médica – MARPAM) and the Risk Management Programme of Work (Programa de Trabajo de Administración de Riesgos – PTAR), which were preceded by the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (Comité de Organizaciones Patrocinadoras de la Comisión Treadway – COSO).

MARPAM makes it possible to take preventive action by identifying, assessing and ranking a number of risks and risk factors that, if present, may significantly affect the achievement of targets and objectives, by measuring the degree of impact and the probability of their occurrence. Through monitoring, PTAR ensures the effectiveness of internal controls and allows them to be strengthened to reduce potential risks.
