Project Harley “El Tuerto”

Implementation year

From the beginning of the pandemic, the Medical Directorate of Mexico’s State Employees’ Social Security and Social Services Institute (Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado – ISSSTE), rolled out Project Harley “El Tuerto” (The one-eyed dog), the world’s only intervention providing emotional support and humanitarian assistance through canine therapy to health personnel working in COVID-19 care with a view to reducing their psychological stress. The initiative is a way of saying thank you; demonstrating solidarity with compassion towards and the high value of health personnel; generating positive memories even in times of crisis; and exalting the great work that the health-care system is doing thanks to the efforts of all of its health personnel.
