An award scheme to promote occupational safety and health: Adopting an incentive-based measure to prevent occupational accidents and diseases

Implementation year
2020

The mandate of the National Social Insurance Fund (Caisse nationale de prévoyance sociale – CNaPS) of Madagascar includes occupational accidents and diseases. Within this remit, CNaPS also promotes early intervention, encouraging preventive action to address risks arising in the workplace. The aim is to increase awareness and motivation on the part of employers and workers as regards the need for a safe and healthy work environment.

Since 2000, CNaPS has been developing an award scheme, which is voluntary and free of charge, to encourage relevant parties to act. It offers affiliated businesses an opportunity to win awards based on their level of commitment to occupational safety and health (OSH), and encourages businesses to keep improving their performance. The award scheme has three levels, with criteria to be met at each stage, the aim being to foster continual development.
