National Social Insurance Fund

Public-private partnership for the extension of social coverage: Enrolment of voluntary insured persons in rural areas

Implementation year

In 2022, the National Social Security Fund (Caisse nationale de prévoyance sociale – CNPS) entered into a three-year partnership with Cameroon’s Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries (Ministère de l’Élevage, des Pêches et des Industries animales – MINEPIA) to extend social security coverage to workers in the informal economy of the livestock and fish farming, aquaculture, animal and fisheries industries sub-sector.

This partnership is part of the implementation of the Livestock and Fish Farming Value Chains Development Project (Projet de développement des chaînes de valeur de l’élevage et de la pisciculture – PDCVEP), financed in part by the African Development Bank (ADB). The aim is twofold: to make cattle, pig, and fish products more competitive and hygienic, but also to boost income and promote job creation in these supply chains.
