Despite specific legislation and efforts of institutions and trade unions to improve health and safety conditions, construction is still one of the sectors where the frequency of injuries is the highest. The project carried out by technicians of the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (Istituto Nazionale per l’Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro – INAIL) Advisory Department for Risks Assessment and Prevention from Lazio Directorate and the Joint Body for Training and Safety in the Building Industry in Rome and the provinces (Organismo paritetico per la formazione e la sicurezza in edilizia di Roma e provincial – CEFMECTP) aimed to identify innovative tools to train construction workers.
It was decided to investigate the influence of human factors on the correct and effective management of health and safety, on the basis of two indicators that are particularly significant to building safety, namely, time management and perception of risk. Questionnaires and interviews were prepared and administered in trainings for workers and supervisors in the construction sector to stimulate awareness of the safety advantages of effective time management, with consequent advantages for the companies. The systematization of the tools used in this survey and the dissemination during the training courses have increased worker on time management and have improved their perception of risk.
