SOCSO COVID-19 screening programme

Implementation year

During the current COVID-19 pandemic, the whole country’s government mechanism is mobilised to manage the impact of the pandemic. The Social Security Organization (SOCSO) of Malaysia plays its role in the social security and provides economic stimulus for the country.

However, SOCSO extended its service beyond the coverage of the organization by supporting the targeted COVID-19 Screening in Malaysia. This initiative supports the pandemic mitigation action by the government by providing mechanism for the COVID-19 Screening to be conducted, therefore allowing identification of infection clusters among workplaces and immediate mitigation. Throughout the pandemic (until May 2021), SOCSO provided almost 10 per cent of the total screening conducted in the country at more than a million tests done.

The initiative was a bold decision beyond the mandated coverage and swift coordination ensured a manageable screening programme within a short period of time.
