Unemployment benefit payment during the COVID-19 pandemic

Implementation year
2020

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, and the lockdowns enforced to businesses and activities, almost 700,000 individuals who became unemployed by May 2020 were qualified to receive the unemployment benefit.

Making the unemployment benefit payment from the Unemployment Insurance Fund resources to this proliferated number of unemployed people was not possible. Therefore, the Iranian Programme and Budget Organization allocated an emergency budget from the Iranian National Development Fund in order to finance the unemployment benefit for recently unemployed people, in compliance with the enactment of the National Committee on COVID-19.
