Remarkable roles of Ningxia Electronic Social Insurance Card in the prevention and control of novel coronavirus epidemic

Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region is located in the northwest of China, adjacent to Shaanxi Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Gansu Province. Established on25 October 1958, it is one of the five minority autonomous regions in China. It covers an area of 66,400 square kilometres and has a permanent population of 7.2 million.

During the hard time when the Chinese people were combating the pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, Ningxia Electronic Social Insurance (e-SIN) Card, with the unique advantages of convenient and flexible issuance, and contact-free mode of the card application, provided people with safe and quick online social insurance service. It has been therefore well recognized and accepted by local insurance participants and medical workers. To date, more than 2.8 million e-SIN cards have been issued, with the rate of the card issuance having ranked among the top 10 in the country for two years in succession. In 2020, the volume of SIN card transactions amounted to over 13 million with the amount of transaction having reached 2.26 million Chinese yuan (CNY).
