The Symposium "Vision Zero for Sustainability along Global Supply Chains – Beyond Due Diligence Obligations", held in Berlin on 22–23 October, brought together more than 80 experts from 19 countries and four continents. Organized by the ISSA Prevention Section on Trade, Goods Logistics and Port Handling together with the Chemical, Construction, Information and Mining Section, the event addressed the challenging situation of sophisticated supply chains and approaches to solve related problems.
In order to illustrate the broad complexity of the topic, on the first day, the focus was on the framework and its challenges. It was highlighted by various stakeholders, while on the second day practical approaches, insights and perspectives of different industries were presented. At the end of the symposium, the Sydney commitment to VISION ZERO along global supply chains was re-confirmed. It is about social partners to be committed to safe and healthy working environment, including basic Human Rights, as well as collaboration and partnership along supply chains.
Key takeaways include:
- The VISION ZERO approach needs to go beyond occupational safety, health, wellbeing (SHW) and include Human Rights and labor standards (SHW PLUS) to create fair and harmonized global working conditions (VISION ZERO Guide for supply chains).
- Sustainable economic success and resilient supply chains can only be reached through VISION ZERO and SHW PLUS.
- The ISSA network is driving international prevention policies through effective local and national intermediaries.
The Symposium presentations and abstracts will be available on the Vision Zero website soon in early 2025.
