The aim is to provide a comprehensive understanding on how climate change impacts occupational safety and health.
Why this topic matters
The impacts of climate change are far-reaching, influencing various aspects of workplace environments and practices. For accident insurances and workers’ compensation boards, understanding these impacts is crucial. Climate change exacerbates occupational risks which can lead to increased incidents of workplace injuries and illnesses. This necessitates the adaptation of risk assessment models and the development of new preventative measures to protect workers effectively.
Key themes include:
- National experiences and challenges: Sharing national experiences on OSH and climate change, and setting the stage for further discussions.
- Direct effects of climate change on OSH: Exploring topics such as UV radiation, outdoor and indoor risks, and insect-borne diseases.
- Indirect effects of climate change on OSH: Addressing occupational risks in the green industry, including energy production (wind turbines, solar panels, hydrogen energy) and the role of first aid responders.
- Innovation: Learning how innovative approaches can help manage occupational risks and promote prevention strategies.
- Case studies: Presenting good practices on climate-related occupational safety and health.
- National Vision Zero strategy: Developing and implementing a national strategy aimed at eliminating occupational accidents and diseases.
