Social security as an essential factor of social and economic development

Data and key indicators 2015

Countries in the diverse Americas region have made often impressive steps to extend social security in recent years, especially through the development of health insurance, pensions and the expansion of non-contributory regimes, making basic social protection a reality for millions of people. There is significant evidence that political efforts and innovation in administrative practices are conditions for ensuring sustainable social and economic development, and in reducing inequalities.
