(Washington D.C., 09.05.2018) The International Social Security Association and the World Bank have signed a cooperation agreement. The two institutions are joining forces on improving the governance, administration and institutional capacities of social security administrations.
By establishing a structured relationship, the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the World Bank step up their efforts on strengthening administrative effectiveness and efficiency of social security organizations, in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. “The cooperation agreement between the ISSA and the World Bank will strengthen our combined efforts on improving social security administration and delivery where it is most needed”, said Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, Secretary General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA).
There are strong complementarities between the expertise and work of the two institutions on extending social security coverage through improving social security administration. The cooperation will mainly build on the ISSA Guidelines, which are professional standards for specific core areas of social security administration. “We are very pleased to enter into this partnership with the ISSA recognizing the complementary roles that our institutions play in supporting improved delivery of social insurance and social assistance globally”, said Michal Rutkowski, Senior Director for Social Protection and Job at the World Bank in Washington D.C. today
The ISSA and the World Bank will principally cooperate in four areas:
