On the occasion of the World AIDS Day 2010, the World Social Security Forum, gathering more than 1,000 representatives of social security institutions and government departments from over 120 countries, expresses its support and solidarity with all those who are affected by the AIDS epidemic.
Recognizing the efforts of three decades in preventing HIV/AIDS and improving the conditions of those living with it, the epidemic continues to have devastating consequences on the livelihoods of millions of people, undermining the social and economic potential of communities and countries worldwide and having a tremendous adverse impact on social security institutions.
Emphasizing that social security systems must play a key role in national and international efforts to strengthen access to prevention, treatment, care and support, the participants at the World Social Security Forum hereby express their strong commitment to the worldwide mobilization, led by the United Nations agencies, to combat the AIDS epidemic.
