The three-day Forum is expected to attract over 200 leaders of social security institutions, policy-makers and social policy experts to analyse major trends affecting social security in Asia and the Pacific, and to consider some of the key policy issues facing social security.
The Regional Social Security Forum is organized by the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and is hosted by the Philippine Social Security Association.
The Forum programme will include sessions on the themes of governance and social security reform processes, health-care coverage, and pension coverage and demographic ageing. The event will culminate in a Social Security Summit involving a panel of experts on regional development and social security.
Developments and Trends in Social Security
A new report by the ISSA on developments and trends in social security in the region, Dynamic Social Security for Asia and the Pacific: Integrated responses for equitable growth , will be launched at the Forum. The report confirms that the region has made significant progress to extend social security coverage, and identifies directions for public policy reforms to enhance social protection. The report will be released on 21 October and will be available on the ISSA Website.
The ISSA Good Practice Award
The first Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific will be announced at the Forum. The ISSA Good Practice Award programme is organized on a regional basis over a three-year cycle, and the competition for Asia and the Pacific attracted 19 entries from 11 countries representing 11 organizations.

The Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific is open to media professionals. A press conference with the ISSA President, Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo, the ISSA Secretary General, Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, and the Chairman of the Philippine Social Security Association, Winston Garcia, will be organized at 12.00 on 21 October at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Manila. ISSA staff will be available during the Forum to facilitate interviews.
