Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific to open in Manila
МАСО, 13.10.09 | Press release
The central role of social security systems in enabling equitable development in the world’s most populous region will be the focus of the Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific, which opens in Manila, Philippines, on 21 October 2009.

The three-day Forum is expected to attract over 200 leaders of social  security institutions, policy-makers and social policy experts to analyse major  trends affecting social security in Asia and the Pacific, and to consider some  of the key policy issues facing social security.

The Regional Social Security Forum is organized by the International Social  Security Association (ISSA) and is hosted by the Philippine Social Security  Association.

The Forum programme will include sessions on the themes of governance and  social security reform processes, health-care coverage, and pension coverage and  demographic ageing. The event will culminate in a Social Security Summit  involving a panel of experts on regional development and social security.

Developments and Trends in Social Security

A new report by the ISSA on developments and trends in social security in the  region, Dynamic Social Security for Asia and the Pacific: Integrated  responses for equitable growth , will be launched at the Forum. The report  confirms that the region has made significant progress to extend social security  coverage, and identifies directions for public policy reforms to enhance social  protection. The report will be released on 21 October and will be available on  the ISSA Website.

The ISSA Good Practice Award

The first Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific will be announced at  the Forum. The ISSA Good Practice Award programme is organized on a regional  basis over a three-year cycle, and the competition for Asia and the Pacific  attracted 19 entries from 11 countries representing 11 organizations.
