Jordan and Saudi Arabia win first Asia-Pacific region ISSA Award for social security good practices

Winners of the Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific

Winners of the Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Al-Razzaz, Director General, Social Security Corporation of Jordan (on right) and Mr. Al-Humayyd, Governor of the General Organization for Social Insurance of Saudi Arabia.

Social security organizations in Jordan and Saudi Arabia have been given the first Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific for their innovative and exemplary approaches to extend social security coverage, the International Social Security Association (ISSA) has announced.

Representatives of the two winning organizations were presented with the Award in a ceremony on 21 October in Manila, Philippines, during the Regional Social Security Forum for Asia and the Pacific.

The first Good Practice Award competition for the region attracted 19 entries from 11 organizations representing 11 countries. The Jury decided to give the Award ex aequo to two organizations, and also gave nine certificates of merit, three of which received a special mention.

 

The first ISSA Good Practice Award for Asia and the Pacific was given to the following two entries:

The Social Security Corporation (JSSC) of Jordan for its project Outreach to all: Strategy of extending social security coverage , which the Jury described as an “impressive, coherent and consequent effort” to extend social security coverage through a comprehensive and integrated national strategy.

The General Organization for Social Insurance of Saudi Arabia for the joint project The Unified Law of Insurance Protection Extension for the Gulf Cooperation , which the Jury commended for its efforts to extend social security coverage to all citizens working in the six Gulf Cooperation Council States. Award Certificates for this joint project were also given to the participating organizations in the six Gulf States.

"This Good Practice Award salutes the progress and the determination this very diverse region has in the twin goals of improving administration and extending the coverage of social security," ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky said during the ceremony.

The Award programme was launched to recognize good practices in the management of social security, and to raise the profile of improvements and innovation in the administration, operations and delivery of social security programmes. The Awards are presented on a regional basis at each ISSA Regional Social Security Forum over a three-year cycle.
