Individual capitalization‐based pensions and the separation of finance and health service benefits: A way to extend coverage in Mexico?
This paper develops the theme of social security coverage in Mexico. It presents a diagnosis of the current situation and likely trends if the dynamic of the economy and employment remains unchanged and if individual capitalization is maintained as one pillar and if the financing of health care services is separated from the provision of health care services.

This analysis is based on data from the National Employment and Social Security Surveys (Encuesta Nacional de Empleo y Seguridad Social (ENESS)) undertaken in 1996, 2000, 2006 and 2009 and from the Quarterly Employment and Occupation Survey (Encuesta Trimestral de Empleo y Ocupación (ENOE)), both of which are instruments of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (INEGI)). This line of research was developed over the last two years and the results published in 5 books and 12 articles. The information presented at this Conference is the result of the work undertaken over the past two years.
