Social security without borders: participants during panel discussion

Comparable trends in pension reforms in recent decades in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) make the exchange of experience between social security institutions and professionals from these regions both timely and relevant. In 2007, participants at the World Social Security Forum in Moscow agreed to develop information-sharing among institutions in these regions.    

The Joint ISSA-CISS-OISS High-Level Interregional Meeting on Pension Reforms is jointly organized by the International Social Security Association (ISSA), the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS) and the Ibero-American Social Security Organization (OISS) in cooperation with the CIEDESS (Corporación de Investigación, Estudio y Desarrollo de la Seguridad Social) and the Andes Compensation Fund (Caja de Compensación de Los Andes) under the auspices of the Government of Chile.

Participants will discuss adjustments which are being made to pension programmes in Latin America and CEE and CIS countries in order to meet the desired levels of performance in terms of benefit adequacy, governance and financial soundness. Global and national presentations on pension developments will be followed by panel discussions and the first ISSA Interregional Round Table on Pension Reforms.

The meeting will also analyse the impact of the global financial crisis on national economies and the implications for social security programmes in these regions and worldwide.
