Situation
Health care professions generate many health risks associated with factors such as infectious agents, various chemicals, radiation as well as high musculoskeletal stresses, shift work, physical violence and various forms of mental stress. Health professionals focus in general on quality of patient care, sometimes to the detriment of their own health. Moreover, health care workers often have limited knowledge of occupational risks and of relevant risk prevention possibilities. Finally, shortage of time and human resources, as well as unfavourable financial framework conditions, often impede many health and safety measures.
Symposium aims
The symposium has been an international forum for exchanging knowledge and experience of occupational risk prevention in the health services sector and has allowed practical prevention solutions to be proposed.
Targeted public
This symposium was intended for a wide range of people: health profession employees, care facility employers and managers, occupational health and safety specialists, Social Security and social partners representatives, prevention institution representatives performing surveillance assignments, political representatives.
