30th anniversary
It was founded on 17 June 1970 in the Employment Accident Insurance Fund's Emergency Hospital in Frankfurt am Main in Germany. On the following day, 18 June 1970, the first International Symposium for the Chemistry Section began in Frankfurt. Dr. Paul Versen, the then Executive Director of the Employment Accident Insurance Fund for the Chemical Industry (BG Chemie), was elected as the first President of the Chemistry Section. Dr. Bruno Marti from SUVA in Switzerland was elected as Vice-President. Dr. Rolf Kassebart, Head Technical Inspector of the BG Chemie, was elected as Secretary General. A second Vice-President was only elected in 1976.
Since the very beginning, the Chemistry Section's Secretariat and Secretary General have come from the BG Chemie:
1970 onwards: Dr. Rolf Kassebart, Head Technical Inspector for the BG Chemie
1982 onwards: Hanswerner Lauer, Executive Director of the BG Chemie
1997 onwards: Dr. Erwin Radek, Executive Director of the BG Chemi
2009 onwards: Thomas Köhler, Executive Director of the BG Chemie
Since the beginning, the 1st Vice-Presidents of the Chemistry Section have come from SUVA:
1970 onwards: Dr. Bruno Marti
1982 onwards: Dr. Dominik Galliker, Director of the Board at SUVA
2000 onwards: Dr. Ulrich Fricker, Director of the Board at SUVA
In 1976, a further Vice-President was elected:
1976 onwards Mr. John Gardner, CIA, British Chemical Industry Safety Council of the Chemical Industries Association
1982 onwards: Dr. Jean Verrier, INRS
1988 onwards: Dr. Bernard Moncelon, INRS Nancy
