Signing ceremony of the agreement to host the World Social Security Forum in Qatar
The World Social Security Forum and the 31st ISSA General Assembly will take place in Doha, Qatar, from 10 to 15 November 2013. The Forum will provide an exclusive opportunity to share knowledge, present new guidelines and practical tools and discuss innovative strategies for excellence in social security administration. The event is expected to attract more than 1,000 participants, including policy-makers, senior managers and social security experts from around the world.
During the signing ceremony in Doha on 25 April, which was attended by members of the National Organizing Committee and media representatives, the President of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority, Turki Al-Khater, welcomed the World Social Security Forum as an opportunity to raise the profile and understanding of social security nationally and internationally.
The ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky presented the ISSA and outlined plans for the World Social Security Forum, which will be the first to take place in the region. The ISSA’s mandate is to promote and develop social security worldwide, as a human right and as a key factor of social and economic development, he said, and the Forum will be a landmark event for social security.
During the ceremony, the logo design selected for the World Social Security Forum was presented. The logo, pictured on left, which was conceived by the award-winning designer Tarek Atrissi, is a calligraphic rendering of the Arabic word "Qatar" with the ISSA corporate colours.
