Firefighting skills, expertise in rope rescue, and ability with lifting bags had to be proven by the competing mine resuce teams in the Hollinger Gold Mine during the 60th annual Ontario Mine Rescue Competition in Timmins in June. But that has not been everything: When an “unexpected” mine emergency occurred, teams had to shift from demonstration mode to rescue mode. Goldcorp Canada’s Porcupine Gold Mine rescue team achived the best results and won the competition, next to the 2010 Firefighting Team Award.
