Strategic Re-engineering Process
The Swaziland National Provident Fund (SNPF) developed a strategic planning document in 2003 which pointed to a number of weaknesses.
Strategic Re-engineering Process

These weaknesses included an inefficient computer system, deadwood, general inefficiency in the operational systems of the Fund, high administration costs, poor coverage in terms of benefits etc.

Through the implementation of the said strategy, the Fund undertook a strategic re-engineering process which included the following activities:

- inefficient computer system – introduction of a top a range computer system;
- deadwood – voluntary exit scheme and compulsory retrenchments;
- general inefficiency – re-profiling of all jobs;
- high administration costs – restructuring of the Fund’s organogram;
- poor coverage – introduction of the funeral benefit.

The above activities resulted in the following:

- turn-around times have reduced from an average of 10 days to 3 days;
- personnel costs reduced by 27.5 per cent;
- the Funeral Benefit has been introduced, though it is still pending government gazette before commissioning;
- less resources being used and better results being achieved.

The Fund continues to strive for the fulfillment of all its desired goals as outlined in all strategies.
