Reimbursing insured members via SMSThe National Health Insurance Fund (Caisse nationale d’assurance maladie (CNAM)) of Mauritania introduced this practice for reimbursing insured persons using the mobile phone SMS (short message system) system.
To implement this practice, the CNAM partnered with Mauripost (Mauritanian Postal System), telecommunication operators and the University of Aix-Marseille. The aim was to enable those insured by the CNAM to benefit from telecommunication networks to access information provided by the CNAM and the Postal Service network to claim their reimbursements, at far more competitive rates than via bank transfers.
