Occupational risks: reforms to improve the regulation and the prevention of occupational risksAmong various factors that could contribute to prevent the occurrence of occupational diseases and accidents, two of them are to be emphasized, namely (i) transparent information and good functioning of communication channels between the authorities and the enterprises, as well as (ii) the implementation of the right incentives impacting health and safety at work.
In this field, Spain has recently introduced reforms designed to improve the regulation and the prevention of occupational risks. The first reform concerns the new procedures for contributing to social security schemes for occupational risks. The second one is related to the introduction of a statistical system which enables the registration – in real time – of certificates declaring occupational diseases.
