Public service based on social insurance cards
The Russian Federation currently has a widespread system of social insurance cards. These are issued by regional agencies and provide social protection for various categories of citizens (from school children to pensioners). Under an initiative by the Pension Fund of the Russian Federation, these cards are used as insurance identity cards providing proof of pension insurance cover.
