The ceremony, attended by the ISSA President, Mrs. Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo, and Dr. Toru Itani, Director of the PROTRAV department of the International Labour Office (ILO), as well as tripartite representatives from the Republic of Korea, culminated in the signing by participants of a statement of support for the Seoul Declaration.
Addressing the participants, the ISSA President stressed that they were "celebrating not only the Seoul Declaration but also the broader commitment expressed by all actors involved". She added that it was this commitment “which was brought to fruition one year ago, upon which we can build a worldwide culture of prevention”.
To ensure a close follow-up, and wide implementation, of the Seoul Declaration, the three initiators of the Declaration, KOSHA, the ISSA and the ILO, have agreed to appoint one expert each to establish a Joint Secretariat for the Seoul Declaration.
The Joint Secretariat for the Seoul Declaration will promote and disseminate the objectives of the Seoul Declaration, principally through a Website for the Seoul Declaration, as well as other promotional materials. The Joint Secretariat will also devise detailed action plans and support activities for the International Executive Committee, comprising three members each from KOSHA, the ISSA and the ILO.
