At the invitation of the Department of Social Development of the Republic of South Africa, representatives of all African sub-regions discussed how social security is contributing to the broad and vibrant mosaic of African solutions to meet the continent’s multiple challenges.
The session discussed the important developments that are taking place in social security systems throughout the region, and presented examples of how social security is empowering the lives of individuals and communities.
Department of Social Development (DSD) of the Republic of South Africa
The World Social Security Forum is generously hosted by the Department of Social Development (DSD) of the Republic of South Africa and is taking place for the first time in sub-Saharan Africa. The DSD seeks to provide an integrated system of social development services that facilitates human development and improves the quality of life. The mission of the DSD is to enable the poor, the vulnerable and the excluded within South African society to secure a better life for themselves, in partnership with them and with all those who are committed to building a caring society.
