China to abolish free medical care for civil servants

According to a recent official report from the People's Daily, at least 24 of the Chinese mainland's 31 provincial-level regions have abolished free medical care for civil servants who are now obliged to join the local contributory basic health insurance schemes, the most recent being Beijing as of 1 January 2012.
