Financial sustainability and viability of health systems
A sustainable health care system is one based on solidarity
A brief sketch of the structure and financing of the German health care system follows. This sketch will show how a system balance is arrived at by balancing not only the interests of employers and employee but also those of health insurers and service providers. Finally light will be shed on the role of the state and important factors bringing influence to bear such as demographic trends and progress in medical technology will be examined in terms of their longer-term financial relevance.
