Mining is a water intensive industry where water is utilized in every step of the process. With water being the most important resource in all mining operations, water management is becoming a key consideration for mining experts around the globe. However, operations involving such large volumes of water are susceptible to a variety of environmental and production related risks. These risks, consequent to increased demand from mining industry coupled with climate change and poor management has set the stage for water demands and conflicts among users.
End-use efficiency, diversification of sources and cooperation among users, together with improved water management strategies adopted by the Industry, is the recipe for defusing the current situation. The trouble is finding the ingredients.
LatAm Mine Water Conference 2012 indentifies various challenges associated with water use and retention and gives a holistic overview on how these challenges can be resolved.
