Complementary and private pension schemes have been an integral part of pension systems in many countries for some considerable time. The increasingly important role of these schemes has been accompanied by enhanced regulation and supervision in order to effectively secure retirement income for scheme members. Despite this, there was until now no single reference text that described in detail the regulation and supervision of such schemes.
Complementary and Private Pensions Throughout the World 2003 provides in-depth information on the regulation and supervision of these schemes, both voluntary and mandatory, for over 50 countries throughout the world. The information provided in this volume will support efforts to review public policy towards complementary and private pensions, providing guidance to the competent authorities in order to adapt existing regulatory and supervisory systems to new needs and challenges. This volume constitutes a unique reference guide also for employers, providers and students of the pensions industry. It offers the basis for comparative studies and international learning processes which will contribute to the strengthening of the security of complementary and private pension scheme members everywhere.
Complementary and Private Pensions Throughout the World 2003 is the product of the joint effort of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the International Network of Pension Regulators and Supervisors (INPRS). Founded in 1927, the ISSA is a nonprofit organization bringing together institutions and administrative bodies involved in the administration or regulation of social security schemes from countries throughout the world. The ISSA deals with all forms of compulsory social protection that by legislation or national practice are integral parts of the countries social security system. The INPRS was established in 2000 and comprises regulatory and supervisory authorities of privately administered pension schemes worldwide. Its main objective is to provide a forum for policy dialogue and exchange of information between its members on regulatory, supervisory and financial issues. It is supported administratively by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Complementary and Private Pensions Throughout the World 2003 is based on information available to the ISSA and INPRS with regard generally to legislation in effect in January 2003. The information included is drawn from various sources but is primarily provided, and verified, by the regulatory and supervisory authorities that are INPRS and/or ISSA members.
