Towards a class informatics infrastructure with virtualization within the Social Security InstitutionWith virtualization technology, the Social Security Institution (SGK) invested in five per cent of the total cost to be obtained from 2 400 physical servers on the same scale. The work sustainability is ensured with virtualization in SSI’s system rooms.
The Social Security Institution (SGK), at which the database of all health institutions in Turkey are kept, does not only have a strategic importance but it is also one of the biggest institutions in Turkey thanks to its gradually increasing data base size. The SGK renders active service to over 50 million Turkish citizens. Before we introduced virtualization technology, we used to have approximately 200 corporate servers with java practices operating e.g. e-declaration. Considering the health databases and Medula system that were foreseen to be installed in near future, the servers would not be sufficient and would make it necessary to purchase additional hundreds of servers. Hence, it was decided to go through a transformation and opted for an entire virtualization infrastructure, both for economic and purchasing reasons, as well as the increasing requirements for installation, maintenance and system engineering.
