ISSA Secretary General marks World Day of Safety and Health

To mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April, in which the ISSA is a partner, the ISSA Secretary General Hans-Horst Konkolewsky attended the XI Inter-American Conference on the Prevention of Workplace Accidents (XI Congreso Interamericano de Prevención de Riesgos de Trabajo) and the National Research Conference on Workers’ Health (Congreso Nacional de Investigación en Salud de los Trabajadores) in Mexico City.

Mr Konkolewsky was the invited keynote speaker for the first session of the Conference, addressing three main points in his presentation: firstly, the global developments and trends as regards occupational safety and health, followed by an assessment of the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on occupational safety and health; and finally the importance of a preventative approach in social security as called for in the Seoul Declaration.

Other speakers at the Conference included Mr Rafael Adrian Avante Juárez, Director General of the Federal Labour Inspectorate of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Mexico and Dr Juan Carlos Cortes Gonzales, Executive Director, Corporation for the Development of Social Security of Colombia (CODESS).

During his visit, Mr Konkolewsky held talks with Director General Jesús Villalobos López, Board members and senior managers of the State Employees' Social Security and Social Services Institute, which is an ISSA member.
