Regional Social Security Forum for Africa

ISSA, 17.11.2008 - 19.11.2008 | Kigali, Rwanda

The first Regional Social Security Forum for Africa took place in Kigali, Rwanda, from 18 to 20 November 2008, at the invitation of the Social Security Fund of Rwanda. This Forum provided the key platform for information and exchange on the most important regional social security trends and priority issues in Africa.

A unique networking opportunity, the Forum brought together social security administrators, policy-makers and international and regional organizations and debated the important contribution that social security can make faced with the economic and social challenges of the African region.

The ISSA conceptual framework of Dynamic Social Security, based on the development of high-performing and outcome-oriented social security administration and on the advancement of basic income security and health care for all, framed the deliberations of all sessions. The Forum offered an opportunity to debate ways of enhancing dynamic social security in the African region's varied contexts and was an important milestone towards the World Social Security Forum to take place in South Africa in 2010.
