- Poland's lawmakers approve retirement age hike

- Philippines: More protection, benefits for informal workers
The Philippine Star (16.05.2012). Vendors and other informal workers can now look forward to more benefits and better protection. Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz yesterday reported that different government agencies are now closely working together to provide additional social protection and better working conditions for informal workers nationwide.

- Zimbabwe: Investments help protect future pensions

FBC Holdings recently presented NSSA with a dividend cheque for more than US$600 000.This was in addition to the US$400 000 interim half-year dividend that NSSA received from FBC earlier on. The total dividend for the year earned by NSSA from its investment in FBC was more than a million dollars. Receiving the dividend payment, NSSA chairman Innocent Chagonda highlighted the importance of investments such as these to ensuring NSSA is able to meet future pension obligations to current contributors.
 
- US: Retired state employees could pay for health coverage

- Polnisches Parlament billigt Rentenreform: Eintrittsalter soll auf 67 erhöht werden
welt.de (11.05.2012). Die von der polnischen Regierung geplante Rentenreform ist am Freitag vom Parlament gebilligt worden. Nach einer hitzigen Debatte, in der die Mitglieder des Kabinetts von Ministerpräsident Donald Tusk von der Opposition als "Diebe" beschimpft wurden, stimmten die Abgeordneten in Warschau mit 268 zu 185 für die umstrittenen Maßnahmen. Vorgesehen ist dabei unter anderem eine Anhebung des Renteneintrittsalters auf 67. Insbesondere die Gewerkschaften hatten im Vorfeld der Abstimmung heftig gegen die Reform protestiert.
 
- US: Insurance rebates totalling $1.3 billion could be on the way this summer, study says

Consumers and businesses will receive about $1.3 billion by this August from insurance plans that failed to meet a new standard in the 2010 health-care law, according to estimates released Thursday by the independent Kaiser Family Foundation. (That’s assuming the law, or at least the portion of it containing the rule, is upheld by the Supreme Court, which is expected to issue its decision in late June.)

- UAE: Insurance cover sought for diabetes surgery

- Philippines: Labor groups urge employers to comply with SSS obligations

- Saudi Arabia: GOSI chief elected VP of ISSA
Arab News (13.05.2012). RIYADH: Soliman Al-Humayyed, governor of General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) has been elected vice president of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) by its board of directors during its 105th meeting in Geneva recently.
 
- South Korea: Firms overlook occupational diseases
koreatimes.co.kr (06.05.2012). Around 170,000 workers are diagnosed with cancer every year, but only 25 on average are classified as patients suffering from a work-related illness, according to a report from the Korea Workers’ Compensation and Welfare Service.
 
- France: Emploi - Un an pour inverser la courbe du chômage

- Aid policy: Beyond the MDGs - planning for after 2015

Britain’s Institute of Development Studies (IDS) has just published a paper entitled Human Security and the Next Generation of Comprehensive Human Development Goals, which makes the case for adopting targets that are “more explicitly rights-based and participatory”, would focus more on equity and sustainability, and “insist on the centrality of employment and decent work”.

- Disabled Americans shrink size of U.S. labor force

That helps explain as much as one quarter of the decline in the U.S. labor-force participation rate during the period, according to economists at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Morgan Stanley.
 
- CEE governments erode occupational pensions

- China: Labor force in Taiwan shows signs of aging

- Rwanda: Employers told to remit social security funds
allAfrica.com (02.05.2012). As the world marked the International Labour Day yesterday, the Director General of RSSB, Angelique Kantengwa, called on all employers in the country to remit social contributions of their employees, citing that only 10 per cent of businesses pay on time.

- US: Social Security starts providing online statements
businessweek.com (01.05.2012). The Social Security Administration is now providing workers with online statements of the estimated benefits they will get when they retire, replacing the paper ones the agency used to mail out.
