Mr. Errol Frank Stoové, ISSA President

Mr. Errol Frank Stoové was elected by the ISSA Council from among four candidates, and becomes the 15th President in the ISSA’s 83-year history. Mr. Stoové is Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO, Social Insurance Bank, The Netherlands. Mr. Stoové succeeds Ms. Corazon de la Paz-Bernardo (Philippines), who was elected in 2004, and who was recognized as an Honorary President of the ISSA.

Addressing the members of the Council, the newly-elected President stated “The current financial and economic crisis is reminding us once again of the fragility of the global economy and more in particular of the social infrastructure. Now more than ever, it is important to continue prioritizing social security and health care, and protection of the most vulnerable in society. As an alliance of administrations responsible for prevention, care and many forms of social security, the ISSA has a task that not only deals with the present but its mission extends into the future: it must ensure that social security continues to be on the agenda.”

Elections of Treasurer and Statutory Bodies

During its meeting, the ISSA Council, which is the electoral body of the ISSA, elected Mr. Philippe Conus (Switzerland) as ISSA Treasurer. Mr. Conus is a Director of the Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund, and succeeds Mr. Wim Franssen (Netherlands), who was elected to the position of Treasurer in 2004.

The Council also elected the 47 members of the ISSA Bureau, which is the governing body of the Association, and the members of its Control Commission.
