New ISSA initiative for North and Central America
ISSA, 01.09.2010 | News
As part of its strategy to better serve the diverse needs of the Association’s members, to ensure the delivery of the ISSA’s programmes and further support the development of social security in the region, the ISSA has confirmed plans for a new Liaison Office for North and Central America, based in Mexico.

The ISSA Liaison Office for North and Central America, hosted by the State Employees' Social Security and Social Services Institute (Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado), will work with member institutions in Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the United States.

The Liaison Office will facilitate collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and solutions to common concerns among members in the region. Although already operational, the office will be opened officially in 2011.

The announcement follows the opening of other ISSA Liaison Offices in the region in the past two years, and an agreement with the National Institute of Social Security (Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social) in Brazil to host a Focal Point for Portuguese-speaking countries. The Focal Point will facilitate the sharing of information and good practices as well as coordinate activities geared to the specific priorities of social security organizations in Portuguese-speaking countries.
