Technical Seminar on the Extension of Social Security Coverage

A Technical Seminar on the Extension of Social Security Coverage will be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, 29 to 30 August 2012. The Seminar is organized by the ISSA Liaison Office for East Asia and will be hosted by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Labour, Mongolia.


This Seminar is intended to provide a platform for member organizations from East Asia and the Pacific to share their experiences with regard to the complex and challenging task of extending social security coverage.

The focus will be on presenting recent achievements and highlighting good practices regarding various aspects of this topic, including:

  • The extension of coverage to new categories of the population;
  • Significant improvements in benefits or accessibility;
  • Introduction of new schemes and benefits for the entire population or for targeted groups;
  • In those countries where universal coverage for some benefits has already been achieved, measures adopted to prevent the shrinking of coverage, especially in times of financial and economic crisis.
