Seminar on Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the Mining Industry - Eskisehir, Turkey, 08 - 09 November 2010

Together with more than 100 participants, who represent the Turkish Mining Authority and a number of Turkish mining companies (e.g. underground hard coal mining, opencast lignite mining, opencast magnesit mining and different quarries) the ISSA Mining Expert Christian van den Berg discussed health surveillance of employees, the proper design and maintenance of coalmines and a new solution for using a long-term respiratory protective device in vehicles. Other presentations, which dealt with the implementation of EU health and safety legislation relevant for the extractive industry, the identification of hazards occurring in deep mines or the assessment, elimination and control of risks, were made by mining experts from Slovakia, Poland, Belgium and Hungary.
The workshop was completed by presentations from Turkish mining experts, who described current safety-activities in the Turkish mining industry.
