Dr Gunter Baldermann discussed practice-oriented leadership from the point of view of MIBRAG Germany with an outstanding safety record
Global strategies for risk management in mining, practice-oriented leadership, occupational safety in mining, the implementation of measures stemming from the Seoul Declaration, training, risk management and many more topics have been in the focus of the conference "Safety Culture, Risk Management and Competence and Training" hosted at the My Tra Hotel in Quang Ngai, Vietnam, March 18 2011.
Organized by ISSA Mining together with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), ILO and ASEAN OSHNET the conference has been visited by 90 participants from 10 different countries and gave impressive insights into Vietnam's progress in occupational safety and health over the previous years. The participating experts showed particular interest in the examples of good practice such as "From Risk Assessment to Safe Quarry Operations: Good practice from Luxemburg" demonstrated with first hand experience by Peter Rödel, Cimalux Luxemburg, and the "Seven Golden Rules for Safe Mining" introduced by ISSA Mining' Secretary General Helmut Ehnes.
ISSA Mining delegates seized the opportunity to attend an ILO Japan ASEAN OSHNET workshop the following day and the launching of the National Safety Week on 20 March.
To continue the fruitful cooperation, a follow-up memorandum of understanding will be drafted and signed by MoLISA and ISSA Mining.
